Before Teddy Bare Body was a brand…
Long before storefronts, packaging, and product collections, there was simply a mixing bowl, a hand whisk, and the hope that something natural could finally help.
Teddy Bare Body started when I least expected it to.
My husband, Marq, suffered from what we jokingly called “dragon scales” — a gritty but fitting way to describe how severe his eczema flare-ups had become. During bad flare-ups, his skin would harden and raise into thick flakes. And honestly? Seeing it happen used to make me sick to my stomach.
Not because I couldn’t stand the sight of it — because I hated that he had to live through it.
Year after year, he was prescribed cream after cream. Some would temporarily ease the itching, but none of them seemed to actually help his skin heal. If anything, it often felt like the flare-ups only became worse over time. Eventually, I realized I couldn’t just sit back and watch it keep happening. I had to do something.
So, I started buying different moisturizers, lotions, and creams myself, hoping to find something he could safely pair with his medicated products. I wanted something that would not only calm the itching, but also soften the hardened, scale-like texture his skin would develop during flare-ups.
But honestly? Those didn’t work either.
Then one day, Marq remembered that a family member had once suggested trying coconut oil. At first, it sounded almost too simple. But coconut oil is naturally rich in fatty acids, deeply moisturizing, soothing to irritated skin, and known to support the skin barrier. So, we gave it a shot.
Every day after his showers, we began applying coconut oil directly to his skin.
And slowly… we started noticing changes.
The flare-ups were still there, but his skin felt softer. Less rigid. Less angry. It was progress — and after everything we had tried, even small progress felt huge.
That’s when I realized I needed to dig deeper.
I began researching natural ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, and nourishing oils — ingredients that had been trusted in households and skincare practices for generations. The more I researched, the more I wondered:
What if I combined them?
So, I taught myself how to make whipped body butter.
Some of the earliest jars of Teddy Bare Body — handmade, unbranded, and filled with the hope that we had finally created something gentle enough to truly help.
I wanted something lightweight, deeply moisturizing, easy to spread, and comforting to use every single day. Something softer and more luxurious than shea butter alone. So, I picked up raw shea butter, cocoa butter, jojoba oil blends, vitamin E oil, and began experimenting in my kitchen.
I melted everything down carefully, let it cool, then whipped it gently with my hand mixer.
And somehow… it worked.
We started applying the butter to Marq’s skin daily, just like we had with the coconut oil. But this time, the changes happened faster. Within days, the dead skin began lifting away. The thick scales that had covered his skin started disappearing. During a season when he would normally avoid shorts and short sleeves, his skin began looking and feeling like itself again.
And honestly? Seeing his confidence return meant everything to me.
Soon, family members started asking what he was using because the difference was so noticeable.
And just like that, Teddy Bare Body was born.
Two years later, Teddy Bare Body is still rooted in the same thing it began with: love, intention, and the desire to help people feel comfortable in their skin.
